ABOUT THE EVENT
The High-Heel-A-Thon is just that -- a relay race in heels!  The race is intended to raise awareness about the prevalence of domestic violence and resources that abused women can access.  As a charity race, the event also raises a significant amount of funds to donate to a domestic abuse shelter.  Last year we raised over $500 for the YWCA Interim House of Detroit.

ATTENDEES
Both men and women are invited to participate in the event.  While the majority of attendees are medical students, all members of the community are welcome to join.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
The event begins a welcome to all participants and a thank-you to all those who donated.  AMWA members then read real-life stories of women who were victims of domestic violence and have been helped by the women's shelters in Detroit.  There are multiple heats of races, with two teams racing against each other at a time.  Those teams with the fastest times then race against each other in a final round to determine the ultimate winner!  Each member of the winning team is awarded a prize -- last year this was a gift certificate generously donated by Ashoka Indian Cuisine in Rochester, MI.
