ABOUT THE EVENT
The AMWA National Conference is an annual meeting focusing on women's health issues and the advancement of women in medicine.  It an opportunity to network, mentor and collaborate on women's health issues and the advancement of women in medicine.  AMWA's 96th Annual Meeting was held on March 31-April 3, 2011 in Arlington, VA, in conjunction with the 19th Annual Congress on Women's Health. 

ATTENDEES
The National Conference is open to both male and female physicians, residents, and medical students interested in women's health and the role of women in medicine.  Last year, several of Wayne State's AMWA members attended the event and were able to build relationships with physicians and other female medical students from across the country. 

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
The National Conference is a high energy weekend complete with guest speakers, workshops, award ceremonies and a gala event.  The specific presentation topics vary from year to year.  Last year there was a strong focus on Title X funding, the federal grant program for family planning and reproductive health services for low-income and uninsured patients.  Featured presentations include the launch event for UN Women, entitled Honouring the Past - Envisioning the Future for Women and Girls.  This was hosted by Ms. Michelle Bachelet, Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director, UN Women.  The program of distinguished speakers also included CNN Founder Mr. Ted Turner, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, Princess Cristina of Spain, Actresses Geena Davis and Nicole Kidman, news anchor JuJu Chang, and many more.
